Cyber crimes such as hacking of bank passwords and ATM card forgery have marked a sharp rise in the country as over 640 cases were filed in the last four years over criminal offences through online.
The Cyber Tribunal (Bangladesh) in Dhaka received a total of 391 cases over various types of cybercrimes since the tribunal started its journey in February, 2013.
Of the cases, the tribunal received three cases in 2013, 33 in 2014, 152 in 2015 and 203 cases in the last nine months this year, according to the data of the tribunal.
Besides, 250 more cases filed with different police stations across the country are now under investigation. With this, a total of 641 cases were filed in the last four years.
The trial in 276 out of 391cases are going on at the tribunal while trial in 41 cases completed, nine rejected, 50 dismissed on final police report while the accused in 15 other cases discharged.
Some cases were filed against journalists on charges of publishing false and defamatory reports on newspapers and online news portal while some for hacking bank passwords and question papers leak.
