NORTH Korea could develop a missile with enough accuracy capable of destroying US naval bases and the US Pacific Fleet as tensions ramp up between Pyongyang and Washington.
Kim Jong-un carried out what the US describes as North Korea’s first intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) test last week as the despot leader continues to retaliate against United Nations sanctions.

Pyongyang's state media said last week's test successfully verified the atmospheric re-entry of the warhead loaded on the test-launched missile, which experts say may be able to reach Alaska or Hawaii.
John Schilling, an analyst from North Korea watchdog 38 North, branded the missile “unreliable” and said it would be lucky to hit a city-sized target.
But Mr Schilling says within two years North Korea could advance its nuclear arsenal technology and be capable of striking US naval bases, including San Diego - the mainland home of the US Navy’s Pacific Fleet.
If missiles destroyed the Pacific Fleet it would be the largest strike on the US Navy since Japan attacked the Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbour, Hawaii killing 2,403 people.
Estimating the potential reach of North Korea’s ICBM Mr Schilling said: “A range of as much as 9,700 kilometres, approximately the distance from North Korean launch sites to the US naval base at San Diego, would be possible with a 500 kg payload.”
