Rajuk allots plots to 31 people on political consideration

Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha once again allotted plots to 31 people, including ruling Awami League activists and government officials, at its Uttara housing project allegedly on political consideration.

The allotments were given from the already exhausted ‘reserved quota’ in the latest board meeting of the town planning body of the capital on February 28 following a housing and public works ministry directive, Rajuk officials said.

On January 30, the ministry sent a list of the 31 people asking Rajuk to allot them 26 plots from the reserved quota at Rajuk’s housing projects. According to Rule 13A of the Rajuk’s land allotment rules, the regulatory authority may allot plots from the reserved quota to people who ‘have rendered remarkable contributions in government service, public service and in such other field of national importance as the government may determine from time to time.’

The officials said that none of the 31 people were entitled to get plots under the rule as they had no remarkable contribution in the fields of national importance. A Rajuk board member said that plots at Uttara project were allotted to the 31 people only to comply with the ministry directive although no residential plot was left for the allocation under reserved quota at the project.

He said that they would need to change the layout and narrow down the open spaces and other public easement facilities in the project area to create new plots as the ministry continued to issue such directives although Rajuk repeatedly informed it that there was no residential.
